I’m Nick
I didn’t run more than 6 miles until August 2018, when I “trained for" and did my first marathon in 3 weeks. 18 months later, I qualified for the Boston Marathon, finishing 14th place overall at the Austin marathon with a time of 2:52:47.
You know what I did a lot of in those 18 months that isn’t noted above? Make mistakes… fall flat on my face. The zoomed-out summary above doesn’t mention the 3:04 marathon I ran where I went to the bathroom in my shorts and walked most of the last four miles. It doesn’t mention the Ironman 70.3 I entered without a wetsuit, having to be pulled out of the water with hypothermia. And it certainly doesn’t shed to light all the self-defeating moments, nagging injuries and days where I felt like a loser.
What’s made my story one I’m proud of is I’ve always tried my best. If I make a mistake, I learn from it and show back up to do better next time. I control what I can to be the best I can be - and it’s this attitude that assures me I can do whatever I want to do. The cool part is.. you can too!
